What is God Like? - 122-137

122.  Is God able to do anything and everything?

  • Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
  • Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
  • Mark 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
  • Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
  • Luke 18:27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Dearest God of the Possible, truly, with You all things are possible. Energize me to grasp this truth in such a way that it transforms my life. Your power is limitless. Your ability has no boundaries. You can do absolutely anything! My mind can scarcely grasp this, Lord. Help this awareness to humble me as I recognize my inabilities. Show me how to trust fully in Your ability, and rest in Your power.

123.  Is God all powerful, all knowing, ever present, ever watchful?

  • Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
  • Psalm 121:4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
  • Psalm 135:5 For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.
  • Isaiah 40:25, 26 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
  • Romans 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Almighty God, the Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God. In Your Word You have declared Your greatness. You are the only God, the Creator and Redeemer. Through nature You reveal Your power and Your love. My human mind cannot fathom such power and majesty. Lead me to bow humbly before You in awe and reverence, and worship You for who You truly are.

124.  Is God reliable and unchangeable in His attitude toward us?

  • Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
  • Ecclesiastes 3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
  • Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
  • James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
  • Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Dear Heavenly Father, how reassuring it is to know that You are good for Your Word. I can fully rely on what You say, knowing that You aren't going to change Your mind. You are not fickle and undependable like we are. Lord, You are the same yesterday, today and forever, and I love You for that!

125.  The three divine persons of the Godhead are found in which verses?

  • Matthew 3:16, 17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
  • Acts 2:32, 33 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
  • Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
  • 2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
  • 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Father, Son, Holy Spirit, You are my God, 3 divine beings all working in total unity for the benefit of humanity. What a precious God I serve! May the grace of Jesus, the love of God and the communion of the Spirit abide with me forever, I pray.

126.  Is Jesus divine, possessing the attributes of the Godhead?

  • John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
  • John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
  • John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
  • Philippians 2:5, 6 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
  • Colossians 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
  • Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Jesus, truly You are my Lord and my God, as Your disciple Thomas declared. Your Word declares that You have existed from eternity. You are the mighty God, and You are one in nature and purpose with Your Father. I worship You as my God, dear Lord Jesus.

127.  Does our Creator God includes the 3 persons of the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

  • Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
  • Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
  • Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
  • Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
  • Isaiah 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

My Creator God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You have created this world, and You created man in Your image. Restore that divine image in me, Lord God.

128.  Is Jesus, as our Creator, God?

  • John 1:1, 3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
  • Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
  • Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
  • Hebrews 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
  • Hebrews 3:3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

Jesus, Your Word declares that You are the Creator, the active creative agent in making all things. To think that You possess such astounding power, and yet condescended to come to this earth as a human is way beyond my comprehension. I adore You, Lord Jesus!

129.  Did Jesus take on sinful human nature?

  • Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
  • Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
  • Hebrews 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
  • Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
  • Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

Dear Lord of all, the precious Son of God, You took upon Your divine nature the likeness of sinful flesh, so that You could gain the victory in my behalf. You took on the seed of Abraham, and were tempted as I am tempted, yet You never sinned. You learned how to depend so fully upon Your Father, that sin found no place in You. This is wonderful news for me, because it shows me how I can become a partaker of divine nature, as I learn to surrender completely to You.

130.  Does the sinlessness of Jesus give me hope?

  • Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
  • John 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
  • 1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
  • 2 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

Dear Jesus, what a perfect example You have set before me. You did not participate in any sin, not even in Your thoughts. Not one speck of sin was found in You. This was only possible because of Your connection with Your Father. You have made this connection available to me as well. May I accept this power moment by moment, dear Lord.

131.  What example did Jesus give to show how He surrendered His will to His Father?

  • Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
  • Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
  • Matthew 26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
  • Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
  • Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Jesus, You were determined to do Your Father's will. You showed me how to lay down my will, in total submission to my Heavenly Father's will. Let that be my cry, not my will, Father, but Your will be done!

132.  Is Jesus my perfect example, showing me how to depend on God?

  • Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
  • John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
  • John 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
  • John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
  • Hebrews 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Dear Jesus, Your perfect life showed the secrets of Your success. You revealed absolute dependence upon Your Father. You kept Your spiritual eyes fixed on him. You acknowledged His continual presence with You. You abode in His love. You let Him write His law on Your heart, and You filled Your mind and heart with holy, righteous thoughts. You are willing to give me that same experience, Jesus, so I can always do those thing that please You. This is my heartfelt desire, Jesus.

133.  How can I receive the Holy Spirit?

  • Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the Word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
  • Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
  • Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
  • Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
  • Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Father, You long to give Your Holy Spirit to me, if I will just ask You. And Lord, You provide me with the desire for the Holy Spirit, as well as a willingness to obey His promptings. My own ability and strength is so inadequate to achieve harmony with You. I recognize I need Your Holy Spirit. I must have Your Spirit. That's the only way I can be a true Christian, filled with peace, joy and hope. Lord, I sincerely ask for Your Holy Spirit, and I believe You are giving Him to me. Thank You!

134.  Do I need the wisdom of the Holy Spirit?

  • John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
  • John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
  • 2 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
  • 1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

My Heavenly Father, I need Your Holy Spirit more than I even realize! I need Him every minute, to teach me, guide me, encourage me and motivate me. The Holy Spirit's abiding presence is the connecting link to You, Father, and to Your Son. I need this wisdom and deep spiritual understanding that the Spirit brings. Lord, may I ever dwell in You and You in me by Your precious Holy Spirit.

135.  How does the Holy Spirit work for our salvation?

  • Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
  • Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
  • 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
  • Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
  • Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Holy Spirit of God, I ask You to pour God's refreshing, revitalizing love into my thirsty heart. You know all my struggles and weaknesses. I need You to teach me pray effectively. You are here to intercede for me. I need Your renewing power in my life, helping me to intensify my spiritual grip of faith on the promises in the Word. Holy Spirit, please fill me, completely and entirely. I give myself up to Your control.

136.  Does God want us to Fear Him, meaning to have reverential obedience, and veneration?

  • Deuteronomy 6:2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
  • Psalm 33:8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
  • Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
  • Psalm 115:13 He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.
  • Ecclesiastes 8:12 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

Heavenly Father, It is the deepest longing of Your loving heart that Your children will learn to truly venerate You in total reverence and awe. You want me to acknowledge You to such an extent that Your voice is louder than any other sound I hear. Your will is more important than any other desire, You love is more compelling than any other affection. To fear You means to reverence You with ultimate adoration, and that is truly how I want to respond to You. I want to appreciate and admire You to such a degree that I literally worship every Word You speak and long to carry it out in my life. One subtle whisper of Your voice in my conscience will cause me to immediately alter my course according to Your instructions. The thought of displeasing You would be to me the most agonizing thought, and the thought of pleasing You would bring me the highest joy. Teach me, Lord, to learn to relate to You in this way.

137.  What does it mean to worship God in the "beauty of holiness."

  • 1 Chronicles 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness .
  • 2 Chronicles 20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness , as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
  • Psalm 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness .
  • Psalm 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness : fear before him, all the earth.
  • Psalm 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

Precious Lord, Your holiness is indeed beautiful, to be adored above all. In order for me to worship You in the beautify of holiness, I must come to admire Your character as truly beautiful. In contrast, I must come to realize that sin is hideously ugly. Lord, I ask You to permanently alter my perspective so that holiness is beautiful to me. I want to be consumed with the awesome attraction of Your sacred glory and righteousness. I want to live in continual worship and praise, delighting in the beauty of Your holiness.
